       Welcome to Mr. Jilek's Computer Class

This class will focus on several areas related to computers and technology.  6th graders will study areas such as the history of the computer, internet safety, copyright laws, Microsoft Excel, digital camera use/picture production, and personal webpages.  7th graders will look into personal and private information and web related topics, computer programming, cyber ethics and security, the many components to the MAC iLife suite, and video editing.  We will stress autonomy and self-reliance while working in the labs.  We want our students to be confident and have a good understanding of computer navigation.  It is our goal that students will be able to adapt to various computer environments.   .

Benchmark 1.1 Analyze the connectivity of a technology system

 

1.1a Examine the software behind the user interface

1.1b Investigate the connectivity of worldwide communication

1.1c Examine the hardware inside of a computer 

 

Benchmark 1.2 Understand the history of technology and impact on society

  

1.2a Examine the technological advances through history beginning with the number tallies in 30,000 BC to the Internet, artificial intelligence and modern day technological advances.

1.2b Investigate careers that have developed and are developing in technological fields

1.2c Analyze the work tasks, training requirements, employment outlook and earnings for jobs in technology fields

2.1a Describe what information can be shared when using the Internet and what information should be kept confidential.

 

Benchmark 2.2 Demonstrate an understanding of ethics in the use of technology

 

2.2a Identify forms of copying which are illegal or unethical

2.2b Explain how copyright law protects a person's right to earn a living

2.2c Explain when credit should be given to others

2.2d Identify ethical decision making practices which can effect future employment in technological fields

  

Standard 3.  Uses hardware and productive tools for a variety of purposes 

 

Benchmark 3.1  Uses a variety of productivity tools

 

3.1a Apply Microsoft Office and Ms Publisher skills when preparing class presentations to demonstrate competencies in various standard and benchmark areas.

3.1b Use MS Publisher to design personal web pages to demonstrate personal and private information sharing on the Internet as well as viewing HTML code language.

3.1c Use Photoshop elements to edit, produce and design images from scanners and digital cameras

 

Benchmark 3.2  Uses a variety of hardware.

  

3.2a Demonstrate proficiency in the use of digital media (for example: scanners, CD/DVD burners, flash drives, projectors, and computers.

3.2b Demonstrates responsible use and care of equipment

2.2b Research and compare various examples of hacking and identify when hacking can be used in a positive manor
